One of the most common pitfalls I see small businesses encounter is the failure to have a business plan. Think of it as your Google map for your business. It’s essential for determining where you want your business to be, understanding where you are now, and mapping out the steps you need to take to reach your end goal.

But in today’s podcast I talk about another significant challenge many small businesses face is the lack of a marketing plan.  Time and again, I hear from clients, “I don’t need a marketing plan, Jen. I have loyal customers who come back, word-of-mouth referrals, and strong referral sources.” But here’s the thing: a marketing plan is not just about advertising. It’s about knowing the direction of your business and how you’re going to get there.

A marketing plan involves understanding who your ideal customer is, what we call your avatar. It’s about figuring out the best activities to achieve profitability and attract the customers you want to serve. It’s also about identifying what products and services your market truly wants from you. You might think they want product A, but after digging deep into understanding your client, you may discover they actually want product B.

In today’s episode, I’ll explore why having a business and marketing plan is essential, how to create one, and how it can transform your business. I’ll delve into identifying your target market, understanding their pain points, and speaking their language to solve their problems effectively.

So, whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your strategies, stay tuned as we uncover the secrets to building a roadmap for your business success. Let’s get started!
